Five Minutes With Kimberley Walsh

2 MIN READ • 12th November 2019

Singer, actress and presenter, Kimberley Walsh tells us about her new workout routine and how she deals with body confidence

What does your daily routine look like?

I’m in the middle of rehearsals for Big The Musical at the moment, so I’ve got a really set routine for autumn. I’m around in the mornings to get up with my sons (Bobby, four and Cole, two) and then I’ll be in rehearsals all day, but always back for bedtime!

How are you finding rehearsals?

It’s really nice to be active again. I’ve been working out to prepare myself for them to try and get my fitness levels up by doing some reformer Pilates classes and working out with a trainer two to three times a week, as well. Rehearsals are so much more enjoyable when I’m doing choreography, as it doesn’t feel like I’m working out!

What’s on your plate today?

I’m having chicken and bacon salad for lunch because when I’m exercising so much, I prefer to keep my protein up with less carbs, as lighter meals tend to make me feel more energised. Tonight, we’re going to have spaghetti and meatballs as it’s pretty easy to make. I like to batch cook, so I’ll make quite a lot of it and the kids can have it the next day for their meals.

Your campaign with Regatta is about being outdoors. What does that mean to you?

It just fits in perfectly with my life now. I’m constantly at the park or a farm with the boys, so it’s brilliant to have outdoor wear that keeps you warm and does the job. The best thing about the collection is they’ve got something for every part of my routine, whether that’s dropping the kids off at school, working out or taking the kids outside. Everything looks great as well, which is a bonus!

Is there someone who you look up to in the world of wellness?

I want to say Davina [McCall] because she is so inspiring with how hardcore she is, but I know I could never get to that level of fitness! She’s incredible and I think it’s good to look up to someone like that.

Is there anything you like to do when you’re not feeling confident in yourself?

I don’t tend to let things like that affect me too much now. It might have in the very early days of being in Girls Aloud when you’re just learning about your own body, but I’m not really bothered about that anymore! I think if you aren’t feeling particularly great one day, the best thing to do is to either wear black because it’s flattering, or anything that you feel comfortable in.

What have you got planned for the future?

To be honest, I’m not sure what’s next after Big. In my job, I wait to see what could be in the pipeline and I never plan that far ahead, which I quite like. I’ll be able to spend a lot of time with the kids over Christmas this year and then I’m excited to see what the new year brings!
